January's featured image was captured at 5/24/2005 3:56:20 AM near the Jupiter Inlet. The image was captured under a full moon and is one of my favorites. If you look closely you can see the nesting loggerhead turtle near the top of the tracks. I tried to capture the "silvery" look of the full moon and the effects of urban sky glow on a sea turtle nesting beach.
The photo demonstrates why a dark condominium (Jupiter Ocean Trails) along the beach can actually shield the beach from urban sky glow and benefit sea turtles.
During the course of our leatherback turtle research each summer; we measure, sample and tag a few nesting loggerheads.
